• Is it legal?

    Yes! There are over 15 Hawaii County, State and Federal campgrounds that welcome visitors with our vehicles as well as open camping. I recommend you purchase a permit to support the parks. There are also private campsites through Hipcamp. There is also county land that allows open Camping here in Hawaii.

  • Are there plenty of places to camp on the big Island?

    There are so many places to camp on big Island you couldn’t hit them all if you had three months! Click Here for Big Island camping information! There are county campgrounds, as well as state and federal campgrounds from which you can purchase a permit. There is also plenty of open land that allows Camping. We just ask that you Clean up your mess and respect the locals and their customs.

  • What are your pick up locations?

    Free pick up is available in the hilo area as well as the Hilo international Airport. We are based out of Hilo, in the best way to reach us from Kona is to rent a car at Kona Airport and drop it off at the Hilo airport. One-way rentals have been ranging from $30-$40. We do offer a special service for Kona pick up when available, for $200 each way. You can add this when making your reservation.

  • Is there an age requirement to rent one of your Vehicles?

    Yes our insurance requires our renters to be over the age of 25.

  • What is the minimum number of nights for booking?

    Three nights is the minimum number of nights required to book.

  • How many people can the vehicle accommodate?

    We have vehicles that can accommodate up to six people. Our Largest tent is a four-man tent, and with the added annex and an air mattress or foam pad (not included) you could easily sleep two people down below.   • Do we need camping permits?

    It is always recommended to purchase a camping permit to support the parks and keep them safe and clean. Please click the following links to purchase permits:

    HipCamp Private Campgrounds A new popular choice for private camping options is Hipcamp (like Airbnb, but offering camping spaces).   Lots of safe and beautiful locations.

  • What is the pickup and return time?

    Normal pick up time is 3 PM and the normal drop off time is 11 AM. We realize that many of our visitors will be flying in or out outside of these hours and we make all of our best efforts to accommodate after hours pick up and drop off. Please call 808-990-2238 with pick up time questions. We kindly request you send us your flight information as soon as you book so we can put you in the schedule.

  • What equipment does the vehicle come with?

    All vehicles come fully outfitted with the following items packed in plastic waterproof tubs and of course we include coffee, tea, a lantern, and a lighter! Snorkeling gear can also be included at checkout at no extra cost!

    • 5 gallon drinking water jug
    • Two burner Coleman propane stove with 1 bottle of propane
    • Small and large sauce pans, and 12″ frying pan
    • Tea kettle
    • Plates, bowls, cups, and silverware for 4 people.

  • Is the tent comfortable?

    Yes, it is very comfortable as reported by many of our guests as well as our owners who use them frequently.

  • Does it come with a mattress pad?

    Tepui Tents come with a 3 inch memory foam mattress pad which provides comfort unlike any other!
